Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 13, 1685, in Eisenach, Saxe-Eisenach, Germany. He was the youngest of eight siblings. From the very beginning of his life, Bach had a love for music. His father, the director of the town musicians, his uncles, professional musicians, and his brother, had a very strong influence on him. Bach learned how to play the organ, harp, violin, and viola at a very early age. When Bach grew older, he discovered his talent for singing. This talent earned him a scholarship to St. Micheal's School in Lunenburg. After graduating, Bach had several musical posts across Germany. Then he became a kappelmeister (director of music) to Leopold, Prince of Anhalt-Kothen. After pursuing many different careers, Bach became set on becoming a composer. He is now known as one of the greatest composers from the Baroque Period.
